IELTS , The International English Language Testing System mainly measures the English language proficiency of people who want to study or to migrate where English is used as a language of communication.This language testing system is owned by three partners. The University of Cambridge ESOL Examination, The British Council and IDP Education in Australia. This system consists of four modules-Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing. It uses a nine-band scale to clearly identify levels of proficiency, from non-user (band score 1) through to expert (band score 9). 







 IELTS is available in two test versions: Academic - for people applying for higher education or professional registration, and General Training for those migrating to Australia, Canada and the UK, or applying for secondary education, training programmes and work experience in an English-speaking environment. Both versions provide a valid and accurate assessment of the four language skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking.

General training

for school, work or migration: The General Training format focuses on basic survival skills in a broad social and educational context. It is for those who are going to English-speaking countries to have secondary education, work experience or training programs. People migrating to Australia, Canada and New Zealand must sit for the General Training test.


Academic

Institutions of Higher and Further Education, The Academic format is for those who want to study or train in an English-speaking university or Institutions of Higher and Further Education. Admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses is based on the results of the Academic test.



Test Duration



2 hours and 45 minutes, 'IELTS has four parts – Listening (30 minutes), Reading (60 minutes), Writing (60 minutes) and Speaking (11–14 minutes). The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes. The Listening, Reading and Writing tests are done in one sitting.
